movelist
Striker Backdash
Gohan's Backdash has a bit more to it, since it puts him high into the air rather quickly, and then you're able to airdash or even throw out your Super Kamehameha!
Double Airdashes
More exceeding mobility features for Gohan, he can perform an airdash twice in a single jump, and even is able to airdash straight down or up, as well as airdash into different directions such as forward then backwards, upwards twice or upwards then downward.
Standing Medium Kick Chain
Standing combo extender.
Wing Kick
Combo-ender. Twist-knocks-out the opponent on impact.
Launcher Kick (launcher)
Main tool for launching enemies into the air after which you can persue them (by pressing Up) with an aircombo. There is a running version of this, performed by f,f+SK, which can combo off the Focus Attack.
Jumping Medium Punch Chain
Air combo extender.
Elbow Drop
Downward-directed attack, you're able to extend the attack by holding down the Medium punch button all the way until he lands on the ground. Acts as a regular jumping Medium Punch and thus is chainable into a jumping Strong Punch or Kick.
Jumping Medium Kick Chain
Air combo extender.
Butterfly Smash (bounce-juggles)
Main tool for smashing opponents down to the ground during an aircombo. If an aerial opponent is hit by this move, they'll fly to the ground and bounce up upon impact, allowing for a juggle combo.
Omni Kicks
Gohan has the unique ability to kick into any direction with his Strong Kick while in the air. The down-forward, down and down-backwards versions cause a ground-bounce, while the forward, up-forward, up-backward and backward versions cause a twist-knock-away. The up version causes a flip-knock-out. You can add one of these kicks after a regular jumping Strong Kick.
Slashing Kick
Running attack, combo starter. Can combo off the Focus Attack.
Running Launcher Kick (launcher)
Identical to his crouching Strong Kick, but since it's a running attack, it can combo off the Focus Attack.
Ki Blast
Gohan fires a basic Ki Blast. The speed the blast travels at is determined by the strenght of the button input: Weak version travels slowly, while Strong version travels fast. Medium as usual is somewhere inbetween. You're able to shoot two Ki Blasts, one after another. You can mix up the Weak and Strong versions. EX version has Gohan firing two Ki Blasts consecutively automatically which knock the opponent away, and you can combo the normal version into the EX version. Supercancelable.
Hurricane Kick (EX wall-bounces)
Different from Goku's though it shares the same name. Gohan's variant has him traveling more at a forward arc. Weak version does one kick, while medium does two and strong does three. All versions knock the opponent away. You can supercancel into the Super Hurricane Kick during this. EX version knocks the opponent away harder and bounces them off the wall, allowing for juggling.
Rising Hurricane Kick (EX launches)
Anti-air kicks, diagonally rising version of the Hurricane Kick. Weak version does one kick, while medium does two and strong does three. All versions knock the opponent up and away. You can supercancel into the Super Hurricane Kick during this. The EX version launches the opponent extremely high into the air.
Diving Kick Flurry
Piccolo's teachings are showing here, as he adapted one of his famous moves. Starts as a single dive kick, which if it hits, has Gohan performing a flurry of aerial stomping kicks, ending with a knock-away kick and having Gohan rebounding with cool backfips. You can supercancel into the Super Hurricane Kick or Super Kamehameha during the Kick Flurry. A new addition to the EX version is that it now ground bounces after the last hit. During the landing animation, Gohan can supercancel into any of his grounded Lvl2 Supers (Masenko, Super Kamehameha or Soaring Dragon Strike).
Masenko (LV1) (shocks)
Gohan's famous attack acts as a Denjin Hadoken; an energy projectile that electrifies and stuns the opponent on impact. Gohan can also charge up the projectile before fireing it, making it faster, stronger and improving it's shocking features. For zoning prowess, Gohan is able to launch the Masenko diagonally upwards. You can supercancel into the Masenko from his Ki Blasts. Finally, it has a limiter which prevents you from using it twice in a single combo.
When in Destiny Mode, the Masenko is changed to the Burst Masenko, which is a shorter ranged version that doesn't stun and is unchargeble, but comes out very fast, almost instantly.

Soaring Dragon Strike (LV1)
This Super move has Gohan dashing across the screen at high speed while being invurnerable to projectiles, and leaping up with an enormous uppercut as soon as he reaches the opponent, sending them flying high into the air.
Super Hurricane Kick (LV1)
Aerial spinning kick that hits multiple times. It's able to suck in the opponent if they're near and moreso if they're hit once, they're pulled in. Good combo-ender. You're able to supercancel into it during either of his Hurricane Kick special moves as well as his Diving Kick Flurry.
Masenko (LV2) (shocks)
Souped-up version, does more hits and damage. Note that this was changed from the previous build where it launched a spark instead of a projectile. Now it acts more like a buffed-up version of the Lv1.
When in Destiny Mode, the Masenko is changed to the Burst Masenko, which is a shorter ranged version that doesn't stun and is unchargeble, but comes out very fast, almost instantly. This Lvl2 version is really powerful!

Super Kamehameha (LV2)
Identical to Goku's Lv2 Super Kamehameha, except Gohan can fire it diagonally downwards from the air and lacks the option to fire it diagonally into the air while standing.
Soaring Dragon Strike (LV2)
Souped-up with a faster dash and more hits and damage! Also comes with a big aura surrounding his arm so you know Gohan means business!
Gekiretsu Ranbu (LV3)
Gohan's Ultimate is a counter move. If he's hit during his special pose, Gohan counters the opponent and destroys him with the badass beatdown combo he performed against Majin Buu. In Unleashed mode, Gekiretsu Ranbu becomes a standalone offensive move (no longer a counter) which can hit at mid-distance and you're able to combo into it, even able to catch aerial opponents with the shockwave it produces at the start. Also in Unleashed mode, Gohan gains access to different finishers for Gekiretsu Ranbu, which are performed automatically depending on the Unleashed Bar level;
Lv1 - Final Masenko.
Lv2 - Hi-Ex Blast Fist.
Lv3 - Bro Kamehameha.

Lv2 - Hi-Ex Blast Fist.
Lv3 - Bro Kamehameha.
activate Destiny Mode (LV2)
Activating Destiny Mode has Gohan unlocking his full potential. This changes a few things, gameplay-wise.
- At activation, you will see an empty Destiny Bar (which is devided into 3 sections representing Lv1, Lv2 and Lv3) and a red kanji added to the screen.
- Gohan loses Power Charge, instead it fills up his Destiny Bar.
- Using Omni Kicks and Hurricane Kicks attacks gradually fills the Destiny Bar.
- The Omni Kicks do a bit more damage.
- Performing Super moves drain from the Destiny Bar instead of your Power Bar. A Lvl1 Super takes off 1 Lvl from the Destiny Bar.
- His Masenko becomes the spark version, which comes out instantly.
- Gekiretsu Ranbu costs Lv2 instead of Lv3 and takes you out of the mode upon activation. It also gets a unique Finisher depending on the Unleashed Bar level.

Gamplay
At the top of the pack, Gohan shines through as one of the titans of HDBZ! With easily the greatest mobility in the game due to boasting 2 Air Dashes and being able to mix between ADFs and ADBs, he can completely alter his trajectory on the fly, making feints and approaches nearly the same beast. He also rounds out his high damage with effortless conversions off his hits with moves such as EX Hurricane Kick and his multi-directional Omni Kicks to boost his air game even more. Finally, Gohan also holds the current highest meterless damage as of version 4.1.
Much like any character in fighting games, Gohan is not without his faults. While holding a very strong offense his stagger game is quite weak which makes him have to rely on his footsies game or his one shot mixups unless he has 2 bars of meter. Gohan's mixups are also pretty weak when there not off of a knockdown as his only real ground overhead is his slashing kick(ff mk) which is very unsafe on block and has a considerable amount of startup. Most of Gohan's normals also have a long startup with his fastest normals being stand light punch, close stand light kick, and jump light punch. Regardless if you're looking for a fast footsies character with a good offense and flashy combos then Gohan's the character for you. |
