Our friend JuanCarlos, has re-released Syous, so it's time for me to review
it. First of all, I have to say that this Syous is better
than the previous one. Most of the explods have been extracted
from the character himself, some bugs have been corrected
and the final result overall, is a better coding and better
gameplay than the previous version that sucked (although
this one still sucks). However, there are a few issues
that should be remarked.
Let's start with JuanCarlos' trademark: Cheapness. Syous
isn't an exception. Jump and throw a fireball, you'll
see that your powerbar will decrease after each fireball.
That's fine if you want to limit its cheapness, but it's
CHEAP when you are still able to throw fireballs with
0 power. Another cheap move comes into play when a special
can take out 600 damage directly. Plus homing missiles
take out 180 damage (and you can do this attack 4 times).
Also, Syous is invincible while he's performing those
moves.
Time to analyse the "super menu", which JC is very proud
of: The button scheme to activate the menu is mostly bizarre.
"A" Button activates the "elementals" menu and the same
button allows you to choose what elemental do you want.
A+B changes the menu and allows you to activate the "items"
and "magic" menus. Wouldn't it be better to have the following
scheme: A to rotate the menu in one section and B to shange
the different menus? Select one of his various elementals
(Fire, Ice...) and perform a spell. WOW!! Your enemy would
be frozen after you've pressed the button. Even if the
enemy is in the air, he would be frozen! Even if your
enemy is lying on the ground, he will be frozen after
recovering. WOW! That's what I call cheapness. Now select
the "magic" menu and perform that "kamehameha" ray atack.
If your enemy defends the first hit, Syous will continue
executing the ray, but your character would be able to
walk through the ray and hit you.
Graphics: Ripped from a non fighting game, Syous is
smaller than average characters. That's not a problem.
The problem is that most sprites appear cropped in a mugen
stage. JuanCarlos should have editted them in order to
look OK in a 320x240 resolution.
AI: Is it difficult to make a character with a hard
AI that isn't cheap?. Obviously, Syous isn't the answer
to that question. When Syous is AI controlled he can do
the following tactics:
-Execute magic and summon elementals directly without
accesing the menu.
-Once a magic is performed, your character becomes frozen.
-When you are frozen, Syous can cast more magics that
will frozen you again.
-Repeat this cycle until you are dead.
Bugs: Apart from the above mentioned ones, sometimes,
if you press the button C to perform a magic, menu would
appear instead. Syous is also affected by the "Final Fight
Syndrome", in which you are able to jump over your enemy
and continue jumping without having your character facing
the enemy after landing the first time. Another bug, press
Y button to perform a knife stab, randomly a stab or a
evade movement would come. Another bug, is his shoulder dash, which is unblockable, and can be turned into an inifinite. Crouching C allows you to hit the enemy while he's on the ground 3 times. Crouching A has a small recovery time, and turns to be an infinite. Infinites list is too large, but I'm lazy to write all of them.
Last but not least, we can't forgot the stolen code
that we can find in every character JC makes. When you
find something like this in Syous:
[State 1705, FREEZE ATTEMPT];WBJ Find what animation
player 2 is in, and uses it
References to Willoughby's coding and other authors. Maybe
it's time to learn to write your own code, instead of
stealing code everytime? Right, JC?
Of course, according to JuanCarlos, warehouses are fine,
and he assured that if Doki Doki Mugen reviews his character,
he will create a warehouse with creations from other people,
pointing out MRev ones mainly. JuanCarlos, that's what
makes you a complete idiot/lamer.
