download: get good characters instead.

Now that DC emulation is up, SF3 3rd Strike data is now available through screenshot/movie ripping or for advanced people, ISO editing. You might have heard about crappy SF3 conversions coming from Brazil, namely Ex-Inferis. As if he wasn't happy enough to have butchered the great Alex (read sho's review), he has now decided to kill Ken, and completely succeeded in his mission.

Sprites aren't ripped by himself, like most of the SF3 wips started some time ago (except few ones who actually ripped by themselves, proabably using NeoGouki/JJWE's method) but extracted from Zwei Fuss' sprite archive site which offers partial to complete SF3 rips. One would think that seeing the level of difficulty for ripping sprites from DC, the powerful system requirements to make Chankast running at a decent speed etc ... it would be better to get someone rip the sprites for you. That's okay... But there's the Inferis touch, the one we'd love to disappear as soon as possible along with its owner and 99 % of MGBR since it really kills each character that guy converts. You can still find broken MvC gameplay, effects not from the original game, crazy juggles, negative hitvels, missing widths and much more ... let's analyze this quickly.

Graphics - Well, it's SF3 Ken, you already know what to expect from him. Except that the animation timings are absolutely all wrong, thus removing part of Ken's smoothness. Seeing that Ken is a SF3 character, you would expect at least the SF3 spark set, or the default MUGEN ones. But no, Inferis decided to go wild and use the Melty Blood effects. Which are good in the game or for Melty Blood conversions but NOT for any other character. Seeing Ken in action really doesn't give a good feeling, just look at that burn effect on Hadouken, or the super moves. The "Graphics > Gameplay" rule is becoming a law on MGBR. Note that Ken's portrait is from SF OVA and not from SF3 as anyone would expect. Strange to call a character SF3 compliant when it uses OVA + Melty Blood data.

Code / Gameplay - Here comes the part where you will find 90 % of the fun. This character is supposed to have a MvC style gameplay. YOu will soon find after few seconds that this is nothing like the real MvC stuff, but Brazil's vision of the MvC gameplay (as seen in all Special Operations characters, for example) i.e completely broken combos, insane juggles, super jump almost impossible to pull off, amond other things like stupid CLSN boxes. None of the basic moves have defined priority, pausetimes look wrong, and all of them have envshake parameters. I don't understand, is there an earthquake each time you land a basic move in any fighting game ? Parry is completely broken as Ken can parry while being hit, he has a Combo Breaker-like feature, and gets a +33 % defense bonus against "evil" characters, knowing that he already has everything required to kill them. Talk about a balanced character.

Inferis, no. The "want the real Ken ? Convert him yourself" excuse is so lame & old. Just admit that you can't convert characters at least the way they are in their respective games, it doesn't stop to Ken, look at your old conversions for example. Trying to find excuses for poor coding knowledge won't make you look better.

MGBR rule : Graphics > Gameplay.

His juggle is better than yours.

FULLY VERTICAL Shinryuken, whatcha gonna do brother!
